Combo Time

Little Kiwi is starting to get much better at stringing two-word phrases together.  His first phrases were simply “Uh oh, Daddy” and “More, Daddy” but he’s recently been combining “More [noun]” together as well as “[adjective] [noun]” like “purple cat.”  This is a relief since he is able to communicate more effectively and also because it no longer sounds like he only knows how to order me around.

Previously Kiwi would just point and grunt but now Bunky and Kiwi both chime in “[command], Daddy” and then sit back and wait.  In some ways this fosters three-word phrases since Kiwi is able to say, “More [noun], Daddy.”  I suppose this is the way of the world, and at least it removes the mind-reading component out of being a servant.

Bang Trims

I usually go about 4-6 weeks between haircuts, and by the end my sideburns are all bushed out and wack.  My hairdresser told me yesterday, when I mentioned my new job that starts next week, that I could just come in in between haircuts and get a 5-minute “bang trim” (that’s how it’s booked, I wouldn’t actually be getting my bangs trimmed) for $5.  This sounds so super to me, since my sideburns bother me before any other part of my hair does, and it will let me go longer in between haircuts without looking so sloppy in the last 2 weeks as I try to stretch that haircut out.

I don’t think this is a revolutionary service or new spin and so I’m continually amazed at how ignorant I am.

Love Triangle

I am super-excited that I’ll be starting a new job next month; I’ll be working at ”Big Financial” and leaving “Big Healthcare”.  Interestingly, my job search netted me two offers in the course of a week, and this was a flattering and yet difficult decision.  Ultimately, I chose less money for the field I was more interested in and the company I would prefer to work for.  If only I could combine the best of both offers.

I still remember those interviews and I had my metaphorical swag on.  Both had a component where you are asked ridiculous HR-esque questions that seem unrelated but are meant to gauge something or other, like “What is your fondest childhood memory?”  Don’t worry, my answer for that was so sweet and heart-warming that the interviewer was stunned and mumbled, “Wow, I have to steal that answer.”  I got a number of these silly questions (as opposed to brain teasers) but all these years of blogging and general interview preparedness helped me fly right through this portion like I was being asked “What is the name of Pittsburgh’s NFL team?”  I still don’t understand what those questions are supposed to tell the interviewer, but I could pretty easily write a blog post response for each question without missing a beat.

My next orthodontist visit is a few days after I start at my new job, and I’ll supposedly be able to just wear the retainer at night after that.  I’m thinking about trying to reschedule my appointment for the Friday before I start (the only day I’m taking off, so sad), so that the first impression I give off is the witty charming me that appeared in interviews and not the slobbering, lisp-mumbling me that appears when I pop my retainer in.

Site moved from kolaap.com to kabitzin.com

I’ve decided to make a domain change for my personal blog.  I have had kolaap.com since 2003, back when the site started as “Kabitzin Otaku’s Little Anime Art Pad” (the blog replaced my art site, but still featured drawings).  Since then I haven’t drawn anything for a long time, and really the blog is just about my normal life.  Though I’m a little sad to let the domain name go, I don’t want to pay for it anymore and it doesn’t really say anything about the site.  I’ve had kabitzin.com since 2007, and it used to just redirect over to the anime site at seaslugteam.com, but I realized it’d make more sense to have kabitzin.com be the domain for my personal blog.

This website has pretty low traffic anyway, so I’m not too worried about any loss of traffic or pagerank.  I still used the Redirection plugin to properly forward visitors and give search engines a 301.  It should be another 6 months or so before the kolaap.com domain expires, and then everyone who hasn’t updated their bookmarks is out of luck.
